A special test is waiting for the two foreign sprinter aces at the Golden Spike Ostrava. Olympic winner Shaunae Miller-Uibo will try to beat the world record on 300m long track. Canadian athlete and silver medalist from Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro Andre De Grasse will face the sprinter double. First, he will run 100m and an hour later he will challenge Christian Coleman on 200m.

About expectations

Miller-Uibo: I’m so happy to be in Ostrava. I’m here for the second time, after the Continental Cup and I look forward to have a lot of fun on the 300m. This distance is something special. 300m is between my disciplines 200 and 400m, so it is almost an ideal distance for me. Mix of absolute speed from 200m and endurance from 400m. I have never run before 300m outside, once I have completed indoor. I am thrilled and want to try my best time, maybe even a world record. I saw all the Ostrava 300m in videos. I’m not inclined to start the first 200m too quickly, as it happened to Usain Bolt in Ostrava at 300m before.

De Grasse:  I’m happy to be in Ostrava, I heard a lot of good things about this meeting, about the great crowd. The double will be hard (De Grasse is competing in 100m and 200m), but it will be a good test to check my form. With this start I will finish this part of the season and prepare for the Canadian Championship and World Championships Qualification.

About other disciplines

Miller-Uibo: I don't think about 100m yet, maybe in the future. So far I am concentrating on 400m and 200m, with 400m being my favourite discipline. We talked with Usain Bolt about how the quarter hurts and he wouldn't want to run it. So we will see, maybe once I will also try 100m. Or even pentathlon/heptathlon. We train a lot together with my husband (husband of Miller-Uibo is decathlete Maicel Uibo).

De Grasse: I can not imagine to try decathlon, but maybe long jump would be interesting for me.

Between the competitions (100m a 200m)

De Grasse: I won’t do anything special. I will try to cool down a little bit, talk to the coach, go back to the call room and prepare for the next race. I have been working hard this year, I don't think the 45 minutes between both races should be a problem for me. I feel good, I want to test how I'm doing with the form. It is good that we are doing the 100m first, and then come back to 200m. I made some mistakes in Rabat on this distance, so I’m glad, we will start with 100m and afterwards I can focus on the longer distance.

About Usain Bolt and injuries

De Grasse: I was discovered by my first coach Tony Sharpe, he told me I have a lot of talent and if I work hard, I could be once the fastest men on the planet. Now I’m here after 7 years and it seems I’m on the right track. But in the last 2 years i have struggled with a lot of difficulties, it was tough to recover from all the injuries. I moved to my new training base in Florida. So now, I’m back, healthy, feeling good, looking forward for the World Championships and Olympics in Tokyo. But to be honest, I don’t think it will be easy to catch on Usain.
